PRIME LOCATION IN NEWQUAY
From Rocklands
From the outdoor to the indoors
You can surf in Newquay.
We think we might have mentioned that once or twice.
Firstly there’s Tolcarne Beach right on your doorstep, a great beach to top up your tan or if you’re feeling more adventurous, you can join the other surfers and hit the waves. The cliff that Rocklands is creates a unique A frame shaped break. Known locally as The Wedge, it provides a pretty special adrenaline rush. Check out the surfers tackling it from the comfort of your balcony or get involved and get your suit on and head down to the beach yourself.
But there are other good beaches too. Like Fistral, possibly the most famous beach in the country. It’s a mecca for surfers thanks to its amazingly “hollow” waves. And then there’s Great Western Beach. And Towan. But there are other things to do too.
Try The Adventure Centre at Lusty Glaze with its 750 foot long zip wire, abseiling, Coasteering and vertical assault course - up the side of a cliff. It’s five minutes walk away and literally in the next cove. Wait until low tide and enjoy a fantastic stroll round between the two beaches.
Newquay’s great for all kinds of activities. Kitesurfing, mountain biking, walking – the countryside is just as stunning as the coast and the South West Coastal path is quite literally outside your front door – basically you can choose your own pace of life and live it.
There’s the town and harbour too. You’re just a few minutes’ walk, or more likely stroll (it’s a different pace of life down here), from the town centre. From traditional local pubs to modern clubs and bars you won’t be short of places to go to if you fancy.
You can check out tourist attractions like the Blue Reef Aquarium or immerse yourself in the area’s fascinating local history. There are some great places to shop as well. Great for fashion and even better for surf gear.
And beyond Newquay, Cornwall has a lot to offer too. Try the fishing or golf on the south coast. The rugged and rolling countryside is just stunning, as are the county’s many beautiful parks and gardens such as Tresillick, Trebah, Lanhydrock and of course, the nearby Eden Project. It’s a great county to explore under your own power with many great cycle routes and tracks too.
